Free Teleseminar: How to be an Anti-Racist Parent

by Carmen Van Kerckhove

You don’t use racial slurs. You teach your child to treat everyone equally. You expose your family to diverse cultures.

That’s enough to make sure your children don’t grow up to be racists, right?

Not necessarily.

If you want to learn how to incorporate anti-racism into your parenting, join our free teleseminar happening next Wednesday, July 16, 2008:

How to be an Anti-Racist Parent:
What Every Parent Should Know — And Doesn’t

Joining me on this call is Liza Talusan, an educator, speaker, activist, and writer. Liza is a columnist for our blog Anti-Racist Parent, director of intercultural affairs at a small Catholic college in Massachusetts, wife to a Latino man, and mother to two multiracial daughters.

On this 60-minute call, you’ll learn:

  • Why avoiding conversations about race is the biggest mistake you can make
  • How you are sending hidden messages to your children about race without even realizing it
  • Why you should never proclaim to be colorblind
  • How to transform the simple act of watching television into a profound lesson about diversity

and much, much more.

No matter what your current situation is, I guarantee you’ll get at least one golden nugget of information during this never-before-offered call.

So, won’t you join us? Reserve your spot now!

For those of us who missed it, will anyone be writing a recap? That would be great.

Wow–I would love to do this, but the kids won’t let me talk on the phone for an hour at that time of day. I imagine lots of parents would be working then too. If you ever offer one for when the kids are in bed, I’ll be the first to sign up. Otherwise, I’ll cross my fingers for a transcript. Thanks for all of your good work!

a recap, or a way to do this via computer, would be great for me as an international reader as well

Oops, apologies for the late response folks, I only just saw the comments on this thread.

Yes, we will be recording the session and making it available to those who register. So your best bet is to fill out the form here:

That way you’ll receive a link to download the MP3 when it’s available.
