She is a doll. Something in her eyes and smile reminds of my quick-witted seven year old girl. Watch out!
Tell me something, with your inclusion of what I assume is a part of the name she entered the world with (Xiu), did you make that decision easily? I don’t see many others doing that, not that I’m privy to everyone’s story- I am not.
My oldest child has a name beginning with X, and I seem to constantly have to explain to people that in both China and Brazil, the ‘X’ pronounced not as ‘Z’, but more as ‘S’ is not uncommon at all.
At any rate, she is a doll.

Cute???? She is beautiful!
Kim - we kept our daughter’s full Chinese name. We had already picked out her American name, but had the good fortune to read posts on APC about older adopted children who were upset that their parents didn’t keep their Chinese names. That was enough for me… I felt the children had a legitimate point - it was one of the few things they had been given in China that they could claim was theirs.
Our daughter’s full name is Kenzie Catherine Gui YanMei. I know it was the right thing to do for our daughter, because she loves her Chinese name, even at 4 years old.

Julie,
thanks for that response. I do wonder about the various questions and concerns of trans-cultural/trans-racial adoptees, and how parents navigate those waters. Thanks a lot.
